Day 5: Tenacity + Time

Liquid error: Nil location provided. Can't build URI.

Do you feel like you need help with follow-through?

All the strategies in the world mean nothing without consistency, and consistency requires tenacity.

Everyone knows that consistency is required to see results.

So, why have we yet to achieve every goal we've ever set? Why don't we all have beach bodies and a million bucks in the bank?

Well, it usually comes down to tenacity:

  • Doing the hard thing when it's extra hard.
  • Showing up through slumps, stress, and a total lack of interest.

If you're a mantra person, let this be your mantra for the day: "I finish things!"

Studies show that it takes about 60 days for new thoughts and routines to be fully cemented (rewired).

Ooph, that takes some tenacity.

A book called, ' The Compound Effect,'  addresses this well. He uses an example of a water lever:

It takes time, massive energy, and consistency to pump water. Most people give up, but wise people continue to pump. Those who persevere and continue to pump the lever will eventually get a few drops of water.

This is when a lot of people say, “You’ve got to be kidding me! All this pumping, and for what—a few measly drops? Forget it!”

Many people throw their hands up in defeat and quit, but wise people persist further.

And here’s where the magic happens: If you continue to pump, it doesn’t take long before you’ll get a full and steady stream of water.

Willpower is a learned skill.

The book, ' The Power of Habit,'  talks about willpower as being a habit that, when strengthened, can be used everywhere.

🧱 A solid maintenance structure

Tenacity is required with your boundaries, obstacles/mental hangups, and, for sure, getting the clutter out and creating order in your space.

But even more, you'll need to exercise tenacity once your home is precisely how you want it---in order to keep it that way.

That's where a good maintenance structure comes in.

A good maintenance structure keeps all your hard work from unraveling a week or a month (a few days?) down the line.

Three things make up a really solid maintenance structure:

  1. Routines
  2. Habits
  3.  Systems

With these in place, you can't fail.

🤩 Your turn! We're finishing this last day off with a 2-parter! It'll take you less than 5 minutes to complete and will help you to implement what we talked about today :)

One proven method of increasing follow-through is putting some social skin in the game- i.e. not going it alone.

I've built a system for supporting a deeper dive into creating holistic, clutter-free spaces with monthly coaching and open discussions in my program, Clutter Cure.

I'll share more about it later but feel free to reach out for more details!

Either way, I hope you enjoyed these past 5 days and that perhaps you learned something new or found a bit of inspiration.

All my best,

Mia
